Team Hull swimmers won their first trophy of the year with a hard-earned victory at the annual Rotherham Metro Invitational team gala at Maltby Leisure Centre.
The event which took place on Saturday, 23 March, 2019 saw us pit swimmers from Hull Masters and South Hunsley Masters (forming ‘Team Hull’) against the best veteran swimmers from clubs in Rotherham, South Axholme, Lincoln and two teams from Sheffield. The victory marks the first time the team has won the event in more than 14 years of competing.
In her first veterans’ competition, Aleah Ross, 18 (pictured, above) picked up maximum points in two individual races and the ‘Skins’ challenge - where competitors sprint against one another in all four strokes - while at the other end of the scale, 59 year old Ian Harman took on opponents to win both his 50m freestyle and butterfly events. There were also victories for Jean Philipson, who won the women’s 50+ years 50m butterfly, Kat Hamilton, in the women’s 30-49 50m backstroke and Peter Garland, in the 65+ individual medley.
